Sexual harassment challenge no harm meant

The challenge:

"Our managers need to get beyond 'but they didn't mean any harm'!"

Our solution:

The spectrum of intent
We mapped the legal language of 'purpose or effect' onto this spectrum, then brought it alive with examples:

Accidental

The blindspot:  Completely unaware that this could be unwelcome,

Careless

Just didn't think about the potential impact.

Reckless

Took a risk:  The desire to do it was stronger than the recognition that it may be unwelcome.

Deliberate

The purpose was to cause harm or discomfort - or worse.

The result:

Managers were confident to call out potentially unwanted behaviour, wherever the example was on the spectrum.
